Willy, so much to unpack in everything you write. Appreciate you sharing this and enjoy thinking about what you're sharing.

Congratulations on completing your first marathon. It sounds like you haven't caught the marathon bug, but I'm glad you tried it. I have enjoyed every marathon I've run, from the training that goes into preparing for it to the event itself, and the camaraderie of doing it with thousands of others, seeing them also struggle to finish.

A lot to think about with the comfort piece. Interesting that even when we try to set up something that is "tough," it is often limited or controlled...almost like an illusion of challenge.

Jason. Thank you. I love that you are drawn to the camaraderie of those events. You're right, it is inspiring to witness the finish line breakdowns. The training, yes. Only until recently have I experienced gratitude for the process. It was always about the finish. At least until I learned otherwise.

Comfort. I walk a tightrope navigating the topic of suffering. I know it's not wise to self-inflict suffering. It's foolish. BUT... I also can't ignore how often we structure things to avoid it altogether.

Not in obvious ways. Nothing dramatic. Just small decisions that keep everything manageable. Predictable. Contained.

And I’m starting to wonder what that does over time.
